1. When is the campground open?

Our campground is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the camping season. We open the campground on the Canadian Victoria Day weekend. Our campground closes in early October.

2. How do we find you?

We have a live link to Google Maps and Google Earth (see Home page) that provides the coordinates for finding our campground.

3. Do I pay extra for use of the campground amenities?

For registered campers, the use of our campground facilities is included in the camping fee. This includes use of the pool, washroom, showers, beach, boat ramp, hiking trails, water, dumping station, electricity, and fire pots. There is a modest fee to use the coin- operated washer and dryer.

4. Does Great Bear have a store on its property?

Great Bear does not currently have a store on site. However, the Nackawic Shopping Centre is only 15 minutes away. There you will find a grocery and liquor store, pharmacy, pizza and video rental store and a Dollar Store. A family restaurant and a Chinese restaurant are nearby. Great Bear sells propane, firewood and ice at the campground.

5. Are pets allowed?

Pets love Great Bear. Our large spacious campground provides miles of wonderful hiking trails for pets and pet owners.

6. When is check-in and check-out time?

Our check-in time is noon and our check-out time is 11 a.m. This is strictly enforced on holiday weekends when our campground is fully reserved and typically has a waiting list.

7. Am I allowed to have guests while staying at the campground?

Yes, guests are allowed. However, for our campers’ security, all guests must be registered at the office, so we know who is on the property. In most cases, there is no charge for guests who are visiting for up to three hours.

There is an additional charge of $3 per person for guests who use the swimming pool and all guests must be off the property by no later than 11 p.m. Guests who stay overnight, with the consent of a registered camper, are subject to an overnight fee. Rates are available on request.

8. Where is the closest airport?

Fredericton Airport is approximately 40 minutes from the campground.

9. Does Great Bear Camping have trailers or cabins for rent?

We have partnered with RV World to provide trailers for rent for campers who plan to stay at least a week. A new or almost brand new trailer that you have selected will be set-up on a prime campsite at Great Bear in advance of your arrival. You pay RV World for the trailer and you pay Great Bear for the camping. Once your stay is over, RV World returns the trailer to their lot. We do not have cabins for rent.

10. Are campfires allowed?

Yes, we think that having a campfire is essential for those who love to camp and who have a “love of the great outdoors.” Your campsite is equipped with a fire pot. Firewood is sold at the campground office.

EXCEPTION: if the Province of New Brunswick decides that weather conditions are too dry to have campfires, Great Bear will ban all campfires until this provincial ruling is lifted.

11. Does Great Bear have high-speed internet service?

In January 2011, for the first time, we were able to purchase high-speed internet services at our home in Bear Island through Our home is located next door to the campground. We do not yet have internet access available at our campsites. However, we would be happy to assist you in accessing the internet, on a request basis, out of our home office.
